About this calculator

When money goes in on different dates, a simple return misleads. Enter each investment (and any withdrawal) with its date and the current value — XIRR gives the annual return your money actually earned.

How is this calculated?

XIRR is the annual rate r at which the present value of all cash flows is zero: Σ amount ÷ (1 + r)^(days from first flow ÷ 365) = 0. Money you invest counts as negative, withdrawals and current value as positive. Solved numerically.

Questions people ask

Why is XIRR different from CAGR?

CAGR assumes one investment at the start. With a SIP, later instalments were invested for less time, so XIRR — which uses the actual dates — is the accurate measure.
