About this calculator

Withdraw a fixed amount every month from an invested corpus — and optionally raise it each year for inflation. See whether the money lasts, what is left at the end, and the highest withdrawal that would last your chosen period.

How is this calculated?

Each month the withdrawal is taken out and the rest grows at the monthly equivalent of the assumed annual return. The withdrawal rises by the chosen percentage every 12 months. The “highest withdrawal that lasts” is the starting amount that uses up the corpus exactly over the period.

Questions people ask

What is a safe withdrawal rate?

Withdrawing 4–5% of the corpus a year, rising with inflation, is a common starting point; a lower rate is safer for long retirements. Use the calculator to see how long your chosen amount lasts.

How are SWP withdrawals taxed?

Each withdrawal is partly your own money and partly gain. Only the gain portion is taxed, as short- or long-term capital gains depending on how long those units were held.
